The work of the Tribunal of the Diocese of Baker is focused on the covenant of marriage that takes place when a man and a woman exchange consent at the time of their wedding vows. Fidelity, permanence and an openness to children are essential elements of that covenant and help to ensure a lasting bond.
While upholding the teachings of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, regarding marriage, the Roman Catholic Church recognizes that unfortunately some marriages end in civil divorce. Following this painful and difficult time, it is understandable that those involved may seek to know their standing in the practice of the faith.
When asked by one of the parties to investigate a former marriage, the Tribunal's role is to determine if it was entered into with the necessary knowledge, capacity, and will. If this was not so, a decree of nullity may be issued.
Our mission is to serve those seeking clarity with justice, charity and compassion. Our goal is to provide information and support in a timely manner throughout this healing process.
It is our hope that you find the material offered here useful. Please feel free to contact the office of the Tribunal with questions regarding the nullity process.
