St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Bend, hosted Dr. Mary Healy for an all-day parish retreat and healing service, Encountering Jesus: A Call to Holiness, Healing, and Mission, on Saturday, September 21. A wonderful celebration of God's healing love brought together 350 people as far as Everett, WA, to Medford, OR, to Joseph, OR.
Dr. Healy, a scripture scholar and professor and Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, was one of the first 3 women appointed to the Pontifical Biblical Commission, has been a strong leader of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and is a featured speaker at many conferences including seminars at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Fr. Jose Mudakodiyil and other parish representatives first learned of her when they attended a Divine Renovation Conference in the summer of 2022 and subsequently invited her to speak as part of the parish’s emphasis on evangelization.
Dr. Healy’s presentations focused on evangelization with a strong emphasis on healing to imitate Jesus whose healings were deeds that verified his words. She pointed out that when Jesus sent out the apostles and the 70 disciples, “He gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure the sick” (Lk 9:1).
She also directed our attention to the end of Mark’s Gospel when Jesus said, “These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name, they will drive out demons…they will lay hands on the sick and they will be healed” (Mk 15:17-18).
Many parishioners are meeting and praying to see how they can respond to Dr. Healy’s inspiring and powerful message so that it has a lasting impact.
On October 1st, Our Lady of Angels Church was honored to host the Relic of St. Jude, which saw an impressive turnout of approximately 1,919 visitors throughout the day. Fr.
