On March 24th, Bishop Cary and the priests of the Diocese of Baker will come together in our Cathedral, St. Francis de Sales, in Baker City to celebrate the Chrism Mass. Some have made this trip many times over the years and yet, for some, this will be their first time in our Cathedral. Each year the Chrism Mass beautifully expresses Christ’s gift of the priesthood to His Church. As the high priest of the flock he is appointed to shepherd, our Bishop gathers with his priests in the Cathedral to renew their priestly promises and to bless the Holy Oils they will use in conferring the sacraments throughout the next year.
During the Chrism Mass, all the priests of our Diocese will stand and renew their vows of priesthood. This ceremony, while simple and short, is of great importance. They will once again commit themselves to the service of the Church and to our Bishop. This also shows the solidarity of the priest to the Church, their Bishop, and to each other. It is at the Chrism Mass that some priests are also recognized for their years of service to the priesthood.
Bishop Cary invites you to attend the Chrism Mass via Live-Stream here on March 24th at 11:00 a.m. With social distancing and limited space, we can all enjoy the Chrism Mass from home and watch our priests renew their vows.
